Somnai

Great to work with Chris Branch of Brains and Hunch on this show created by dotdot. We wrote and produced the music for the show, an ambitious mix of VR, AR, live performance, projection, cocktails, smells … You name it. 

An exclusive trailer look at the new production Somnai, from DotDotDot. This augmented-reality show will take place across two floors in an warehouse in Clerkenwell. It's set in a future where AI helps you explore the depths of your dreams, with sometimes alarming results.

Near the last solitary place

Never have I deliberately recorded so much wind. I was the sound recordist for this 360 shoot in Patagonia. This is best viewed via headset in order to take in the full view (and fall over furniture). Also in the 360 world, I recorded some mating frogs … I was asked to, honest …

Every spring, ponds around the UK start stirring and frogs come out of their winter slumber to mate.

In our time machine

So, years ago, in a time of greater leisure, I became intrigued by what I now see has been called the Melvyn Bragg Abrupt Opener – the most magnificent examples of which are to be heard in his Radio 4 programme In Our Time. After discovering that Oliver Burkeman shared this curiosity, I became unhinged enough to start cutting together the top of the show in order to experience the full, cumulative effect of being repeatedly taken back to the year 1493 (etc) at the drop of a hat. Now that In Our Time is about to celebrate a 20th anniversary, and the New Yorker has even picked up on the "abrupt opener", I've decided to share this audio futility.

Adulting

I wrote the music and created the sound design for this six-part drama – the Guardian's first foray in to such things.

"The six-part series explores the challenges of growing up in today’s world through the stories of five friends who are reunited ten years after leaving university. Adulting was created by award-winning radio producer Simon Barnard and writer Eddie Robson, who has produced scripts for Doctor Who and Hollyoaks. Adulting cast includes Hannah Murray and Joe Dempsie from Game of Thrones and Skins, Pearl Mackie who played Bill Potts in Doctor Who, Nathan Stewart-Jarrett from Misfits, and Kathryn Wilder who starred as Ophelia opposite Tom Hiddleston’s Hamlet at RADA."
